Hiring Offshore Helicopter Pilots: A Guide for Operators.

How to write a role that attracts qualified offshore crews, and how AviatorJob helps you shortlist.

Offshore helicopter flying is specialised, and the pool of qualified pilots is small. A clear, precise job post helps the right candidates recognise themselves. It also saves your team from screening applications that were never going to fit.

Define the role precisely

Experienced offshore pilots look for specifics. State them up front:

  • Licence: CPL(H) or ATPL(H), and the issuing authority you need.
  • Type ratings: the types you operate, and whether you will type-rate the right candidate.
  • Experience: total hours, multi-crew, IFR and offshore hours.
  • Certificates: offshore survival training such as HUET, and any role-specific qualifications.
  • Base, roster and contract: where the pilot will be based, the rotation pattern and the contract type.

Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves

A long list of "essential" requirements puts off good candidates who meet nearly all of them. When you post a job on AviatorJob, you set the requirements for the role and choose which questions applicants must answer before they can apply. You can also mark a few requirements as true must-haves. When the platform matches Verified candidates to your role, anyone who misses a must-have is filtered out, and the rest are ranked by how many of your other requirements they meet.

Be clear about pay and progression

Offshore pilots compare roles carefully. If you can, show a salary range, and mention the path to command or training roles. A competitive package described clearly will usually outperform a vague one.

Let verified candidates come to you

Jobseekers on AviatorJob complete a short AI screening call and upload their documents to become Verified. When a Verified candidate matches your live role, you get an email and an alert in your portal. You can review the match, request documents through a secure link and move the candidate through your pipeline, all in one place.

The best offshore hires often come from candidates who were not actively looking last month. Matching puts your role in front of them as soon as their profile fits.
